the post-2015 development agenda

Two years ago Thursday a United Nations conference declared the threat posed by non-communicable diseases( NCDs), one of the major challenges for development in the  21th century. " Prevention must be the cornerstone of the global response to non-communicable diseases" added the political declaration of the General Assembly meeting known as the NCD summit. At the summit, UN member states recognized the importance of tobacco control in tackling the NCDs epidemic.

Tobacco use is the one risk factor common to the four main groups of NCDs. They are 1.cancers 2.cardiovascular disease 3.diabetes and 4.respiratory diseases. The declaration urged greater efforts from countries to implement the WHO Famework Convention on tobacco control.
Myanmar acceded to the convention and enacted tobacco control law of 2006 but Myanmar government doesn't still enforce the law." Action will be taken for every single cigarette sale in  shops in Yangon region to enforce the tobacco control law which has not been  totally obeyed by the public really since it was adopted since 2006," said a colonel Tin Win from Ministry of security and border affairs in Yangon region.
NCDs are included in the discussion to date on the sustainable development goals that will replace the MDGs after 2015. Therefore, tobacco indicators will be included in the post-2015 development agenda.
Myanmar, a resource-rich country, is still one of the least developed countries in the world though the UN millennium goals nearly ends because not to control  smoking is one of the caused factors.
